The blazing heat of Summer is gone, now the nice cool weather of fall is here. Soon the brutal cold of winter will come knocking at the door. Unexpected breakdowns during the winter season can be quite aggravating. Read this article for a Winter time Checklist.

Check Your Coolant and Coolant Hoses

Coolant is the main fluid that keeps your engine cool but it also provides heat inside the cab. If your engine coolant is low it can cause insufficient heat concerns. Be sure to check all hose clamps and hoses, if hoses feel spungy its a good idea to change them. If the coolant hasnt been changed in a long time its a good idea to change it as well.

Test Your Batteries

Nothings worse than waking up early to start your day and you go out to start your truck to warm it up and you find out the batteries are dead. Even though your truck is starting fine in the nice weather of fall one cold front can come through and kill the batteries. Have your batteries tested, if any test weak or need to be charged its a good idea to replace them.

Check Your Oil Level

One of the first things you should look at during a pre-trip inspection is your engine oil. Engine oil keeps the internal components of your engine lubricated. Inspect for any contaminants in your oil, does it feel thin or smell like diesel? Inspect for any oil leaks of any kind especially around the oil pan. If any issues are found it is a good idea to have them repaired.

Belts And Pulleys

Belts and pulleys are often over looked until they break. Inspect your belts for cracks and check the pulleys to make sure they rotate smoothly.

Thorough Engine Check

If you are familiar with engines or a diesel engine enthusiast you can perform a basic engine check. Fluid levels and conditions, CAC hoses and clamps, radiator, exhaust system for leaks. If you are not so familiar with engines find a reputable mechanic to perform these checks for you.

Conclusion

Inspecting your diesel engine is very important no matter what season it is before you start your work day and after you finish your work day. If you need a professional diesel mechanic to perform these checks or any other engine repairs feel free to contact me.
